We are now halfway done with the Clementine Quiltalong hosted by Fat Quarter Shop benefitting St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital! I can’t believe we only have 3 blocks left!! This month’s block is called Peaches & Plenty and you can find it over on the Fat Quarter Shop’s Jolly Jabber blog. As with last month’s block, I would up size the pieces that turn into half square triangles by 1/8″-1/4″ so there is enough room to trim them IF you are particular about that. It came together relatively quickly and you really can’t beat the awesome secondary patterns in this block!

Scrap Vortex Quilt
About a year ago I was looking for an idea of how to use up my ever growing scrap pile. It was about that time that I saw Amanda Nyberg’s Scrap Vortex quilt methodology. I wasn’t sure I would like sewing pieces back together to make a larger chunk of fabric, but this has literally been the most fun I’ve ever had while making a quilt. I did not follow Amanda’s methodology completely, but it was such a good starting point for me to get the courage up to sew things together in any way I wanted.
This quilt became, in a way, a quilt scrapbook. I can look at any section and tell you which quilt the scraps came from. I am not sure if that knowledge will fade with time, but I absolutely love this as a reminder of all of the wonderful pieces of fabric that have run under my sewing machine. I am not sure if another one is in my future yet or not, but I do know this one will live on my couch for a long time. I backed it in a flannel sheet from Target and it just adds to its quirkiness and overall joy to me.
Modern Cogs
It’s been awhile (like a year) since I made my last quilt pattern for Moda Bake Shop. Today my latest pattern and tutorial, Modern Cogs, went live. This quilt is a FAST, one that uses BIG 16″ blocks to pack a punch. They go together quickly and showcase fabric beautifully. I loooooove tiny blocks and tiny pieces, but for some fabrics they are just meant to be shown in larger sections for the full effect. Ombre Confetti Metallic is definitely one that is fun to see in larger chunks. Modern Cogs finishes at 96″ square and is a great bed sized quilt with lots of movement.
